Best Seasons for Bhutan Dragon Tour:

Bhutan Dragon Tour best time from March to May with September to early November months, March to May during spring with longer sunlight hours where most days are clear from morning till late afternoon, can get cloudy sometimes with chance of snows around higher elevation cold in the morning and night time.

September to November during autumn / fall days are crystal clear from morning till mid-afternoon, but days are shorter with sunlight hours, much cold with freezing temperatures in the morning and night as well in shades.

Climate & Weather:

Himalayan climate can be unpredictable sometimes even in good best seasons, where April and May the best time during spring times, when days are longer with enough sunlight hours.

Morning and night time as well in shade can be cold and much freezing temperatures around high hills.

Other best months during September to November great times for tour when most days are clear for views, although much colder months of autumn season with extreme cold during morning and night time, where sunlight is much shorter.

Visa:

Visiting Nepal one can obtain entry visa from your home country at Nepalese Embassies and Consulates, if not one can easily get visa on arrival at Nepal international airport in Kathmandu, or any port of entry.

For Bhutan Entry Visa one needs to send us Passport details at least two weeks ahead before tour departure for Bhutan, while you are in Kathmandu we might require your original passport to obtain necessary visa and permits.

Getting Into Nepal and Bhutan:

To reach Nepal one can reach by overland from India or Tibet, the main arrival from international flight to reach Kathmandu and Nepal international airport.

As for Bhutan where visa should be obtained along with flight tickets for Bhutan from respective airlines and embassy, where your local agents will do all necessary paper-works to enter into Bhutan, where group and individual visa is issued.

Detail Itinerary

Bhutan Dragon Tour starts with scenic flight from respective countries and cities to reach Paro Bhutan international airport.

From whatever airport you fly where one can enjoy views of world’s highest mountains range with Mount Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga, on reaching at Paro Airport in Bhutan, received by our Bhutanese guide for short exciting drive through lovely countryside dotted with farm villages of typical Buddhist cultured villages.

On reaching Thimphu transfer to your respective hotels, a modern city of Bhutan the one and only city in this world without traffic lights, all the traffic controlled by traffic police with a whistle.

Afternoon take an exploratory walk around Paro main street visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred temples in the Kingdom, dating back to 7th Century, overnight at the hotel in Paro.

Morning after breakfast our local Bhutanese guide will take you around Thimphu memorial stupas, indigenous hospital, where traditional medicine is still practiced and traditional painting school.

Tour includes traditional Hand Made Paper Mill, School of Arts and Crafts where students learns 13 different ways of arts used predominantly in Bhutan.
Here visit Folk Heritage Museum, National Library and Traditional Institute of Medicine. Drive to the Zilukha nunnery where you can interact with nuns.
Tour extends to Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple of valley with short scenic drive to large and recently built Buddha statue, with wonderful view of entire Thimphu valley, after an interesting tour return back to hotel with afternoon free for individual activities.

After a pleasant overnight stops in Thimphu, morning an interesting drive to Gangtey, leading to Bhutan beautiful countryside around green hills with scenery of beautiful landscapes dotted with farms and villages as drive ends at Gangtey then check in a nice farm house for overnight stop.

Afternoon walk around the village of great cultural interest and observe great flock of black necked cranes that resides around the great green valley of Gangtey and Gogona.

Today a long drive of 5-6 hours to reach at Punakha via Thimphu a wonderful journey to reach at Punakha as drive takes you over Dochu-la pass at 3,200 m, overlooking beautiful views of Bhutan’s highest mountains Jumolhari with other range of peaks.

During drive short visit to 108 stupas and then continue drive to warm sub-tropical valley around Punakha, on arrival a short hike to the temple of Chimi Lakhang, the temple of fertility associated with religious art of phallus.

Morning short hike of less than two hours to reach Tashigang Hongtso Monastery, located on outskirt of beautiful forest offers grand views of Hongtso, Tashigang villages, with time here to explore its old buildings where Buddhist pilgrims practice meditation in peaceful environment.

After a lovely day head back to Punakha Valley, around and visit Mo Chhu and the Po Chhu (Mother and Father River), arriving at the lodge with short interesting walk to Royal Botanical garden.

Today a long but interesting drive back to Paro with scenic views of countryside after a nice morning tour of Punakha, as drive take you back at Paro with few stops visit of 1927-29 AD Dzong or fort built by King Shabdung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified the Kingdom of Bhutan. After a pleasant drive and interesting tour reaching at Paro, with time for short visit of Paro Fort ‘Simtokh Dzong’.

Morning after breakfast, short drive with an hour climb to Bhutan’s most famous landmark to reach old Taksang Monastery famously called “Tiger's Nest”.

A nice spot where Buddhist monks and high priests occasionally visits for retreats and meditation, the monastery perched inside of overhanging rock cliff rewards you great views of Paro town with distance peaks.

After an enjoyable morning and mid-day descend to the bottom of the hills with short drive to your hotel with afternoon free for leisure walks around the market and street of Paro.

Morning short drive towards 17th Century Ta-Dzong, later converted as the National Museum in 1967, afternoon drive to Chele La Pass at above 3,440 m for grand views of Himalayan peaks and on route visit old Kila Gompa/ monastery of great religious interest, one of the oldest monuments of Bhutan.

From here drive back to your hotel with leisure afternoon walks around Paro shops and its colorful markets.

Last day in the land of thundering dragon, where our guide takes you for short drive and then bidding farewell to our native Bhutanese guide and drivers, then enter the airport terminal for flight to your respective port of call, that takes you to your next holiday destination or homeward bound.

Amazing trek with this company!! I wouldn’t do it with anyone else. Our guide Nirmal was the best!

This company goes above and beyond! They think of every detail and take care of all the trekking needs including accommodations, food, water tablets, medical emergencies, etc. Our guide Nirmal was extremely familiar with the trail, he was attentive - making sure everyone was taken care of, made us laugh the entire way, gave great advice/tips/recommendations for a successful trek, generous (carried some of the day packs up when they were feeling tired), encouraged us and more! I was so impressed with how well thought out everything was and I loved that I didn’t have to worry about the details and all I had to do was show up. The other guides and porters were all just as fun, thoughtful, and accommodating. I would highly recommended these guys for the EBC trek!

Best trek in the world

In March i completed the Everest High Pass trek with Trekking Planner and had all the support i needed from Trekking planner from planning the trip, to arriving in Nepal and then completing the trek. I had an amazing guide in Gyeljen, whose knowledge of the area was the best! This meant I was able to make it over the passes when many other groups didn't due to the weather. He helped with all the accommodation and provided great advice to help me deal with the altitude and very cold weather as these were a new challenge to me. The whole team and Dipak were very welcoming and funny and this meant the trek and then the visit to Chitwan afterwards was one of the best experiences of my life! Would highly recommend and planning to return sometime soon.

Best Guide for trekking in the Himalyas

Everest Base Camp is such an amazing trek, but to have the best, kindest and funniest guide, who encouraged our team all the way and back, made my trek extra special. Nirmal Lamichhane your knowledge of all the mountains are incredible and you knew everyone on the trek. Watching you interact with the rest of the guides, they clearly have great respect for you. You are a natural leader. You are ambitious and know where you want to be in the future and I applaud you for studying while doing treks and taking people up into the mountains.

I enjoyed your stories and games along the way especially the last 2 hours before reaching Namche when it was up, up and up (your way of saying it is very steep). When I fell ill and gotten worse you were there all the way alongside me to help and encourage. The morning after reaching Base Camp when I was faced with being evacuated from Gorakshep, you told me that you believe that I could finish the trek and you would be there all the way if I choose to do so. Seeing the helicopter leave was hard but you believed in me and it made all the difference. Thank you so much.

Nirmal carried my bag on our decent in order for me to be able to breath better (I had bad flue, borderline bronchitis). Out of his own pocket, he bought us Fanta, lollypops, gum .... anything to lift moral on the last day down to Lukla. Our group had such fun with Nirmal.

If ever you need a guide, Nirmal is the perfect man for your trek. He does varies treks into the mountains, not only to Base Camp. Mountain expert, clued-up with flights to/ from Lukla, knows everyone and teahouses, can help with last minute gear, great knowledge about altitude sickness and knows how to take great photos (and how to pose, lol).

The organising of my trip was great. Before leaving the UK, all my emails were answered promptly. Collecting from the airport, great accommodation in Kathmandu and the tea houses we stayed at on our trek was great. We were taken to a welcoming dinner at a local Nepali restaurant. What an experience. They also arrange for a farewell dinner back in Kathmandu - all included in the price. The care and detail was appreciated. Fruit and biscuits at dinner while on the trek- and the guides carried all of it all the way. Taking our oxygen levels after every meal to make sure we were in great shape.

All in all I had the best experience! Thank you Trekking Planner.

I have just had the best travel experience of my life.

What a trip!

What a great buch of guys at Nepal Trekking Planner!

Dipak and his team made my trip so easy, simple and enjoyable - I can't still hardly believe it.

I felt totally safe and fully supported - which was a big thing for me as I was unsure how the high altitude would affect me. I needn't have worried as my guide Ananta and porter Ganesh were brilliant - really helpful, patient and firendly. Every night my blood/oxygen saturation was checked which gave me real confidence. Not many of the guides from different agencies were doing this which suprised me a little.

I had 16 days in the mountains and enjoyed every minute. As things became harder or easier, my intinery was flexible with Ananta very willing recommmend alternatives and to make changes to suit. This made a real difference and I really felt that I got the most from my trek.

I'm not one for recommending and over-praising but Dipak, Ananta and Ganesh all went the extra mile to make it all very special indeed.

Well done guys and (funds permitting) see you next year!

Brilliant service

Just finished the EBC trip with Trekking Planner. Brilliant service from Prajol in Kathmandu who covered my every need with cheerfulness. My guide on the trek, Sudip, was excellent throughout ensuring I made it to Kala Pattar despite a severe headache. He was great fun and was ably supported by Damact (?) as my porter. All in all I really aprecated the service from Dipak and his team and recommend them wholeheartedly.
