The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek details.
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking begins with a brief scenic flight towards Pokhara, a stunning and well-known tourist destination in Nepal. It is located in the Himalayas and is blessed with the natural beauty of lofty mountain ranges and tranquil lakes.
As you go from Pokhara to the foothills of the Annapurna range, the journey begins as you ascend from low, warm farmlands to chilly, alpine highlands covered in a magnificent, dense forest of rhododendron, magnolia and pine trees. In the spring, when wild flowers are in full bloom, the towering, green hills will come to life with blooms.
We arrive at the Birenthathi ACAP after traveling from Pokhara to Nayapul to pick up our permits, fill out the necessary paperwork and have lunch before continuing our adventure. We head for Tikhedhunga after lunch. As we hike, we'll take walks along the Modi River's banks up to Tikhedhunga village's entry.
The first day will be a little bit sunny, so don't forget to wear sunscreen and a hat.
We begin our journey from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani with breakfast. We cross the suspension bridge on our journey from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani. There is a lovely location to snap pictures of the waterfall if you turn slightly straight and up. We continue 1.5 kilometers down the route from Ulleri to Banthati, where we can have lunch or tea before continuing to Ghorepani. The route passes through several fascinating agricultural towns and the steadily increasing way arrives at a pleasant settlement at Ghorepani, which is situated at the foot of Poon Hill and surrounded by a rhododendron forest.
An early-morning climb will take you to Poon Hill, the adventure's highest point at over 3,210 m. Poon Hill provides spectacular dawn views across a mountain range that includes Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu as well as the magnificent Machhapuchare Himal, the renowned "Fish-Tail" peak.
After enjoying the breathtaking views, take a different path back to Pokhara through the picturesque and sizable town of Ghandruk, one of the most significant communities of the Gurung hill tribe near Annapurna.
After a spectacular short adventure and a magnificent experience on the Ghorepani Poon Hill short trek, turn toward the road ahead and drive for a little distance to the Pokhara airport for a quick panoramic flight back to Kathmandu.
How difficult is the hike? Can novices do this trek?
The first trek in Nepal for novices is thought to have been this one. This is the most incredible journey for you if you haven't gone hiking often or if you've never done it before. In 4-5 days, you may ascend as high as 3210 to 3400 meters. This hike is for you if you don’t mind walking for 5–6 hours each day.
This trip is ideal if you want to spend some time in nature and are ready to walk for 6 to 8 hours each day; it's also a wonderful choice if this is your first experience trekking. Depending on your speed, you would be walking for 6 to 8 hours every day. Yet 6 hours is often the perfect walking time for the average person.
On this hike, is altitude sickness possible? What kinds of medical issues could arise when hiking?
You will reach a maximum altitude of 3300–3400 meters on this walk. We would only spend two nights at high altitudes during that time, the first in Ghorepani (2874 meters) and the second at Tadapani (2630 meters), which would be the highest we would go. Thus, experiencing altitude sickness would be unusual, but occasionally, if you don't drink enough water or get enough rest, you could feel a little lightheaded when walking.
Accommodation
Depending on the schedule, the Poon Hill Trek might take 5–6 days. While there are a variety of hotels to select from in the city, there are also several guest houses and several routes that can meet your needs by offering meals and other facilities for lodging that suit your preferences. Camping in tents is an option if you'd prefer a more outdoor experience. The lodging choices are presented while taking into account price, location, meal quality, service, and sanitary standards. To suit the preferences of various trekkers, the many hotels and guesthouses provide food with Nepali, Indian, Italian, Tibetan and Continental flavors.
The Ideal Season for Visiting Poon Hill
The path is lovely, and hiking is simpler in the months without rain or snow. Therefore, September through November and March through May would be considered the greatest seasons. The days are clear and the temperature is mild throughout these months, allowing for beautiful views of the mountains during the daytime. Only the mornings and nights are a little cool. The walk may be short cut in the middle of a wet or snowy season, or you could miss the spectacular sights because the sky wasn’t as clear. On the other side, the walk can be completed at any time of year, and if you're lucky, you'll also get to take in the breathtaking vistas of the mountain ranges.
On the Poon Hill Trek, what should you bring?
Even though it is a relatively short journey, you need to bring several basics and several pieces of equipment. Whether you are using a porter or not, the weight of any trek should not exceed 15-20 kilograms. The items you'll need for the Poon Hill Trek are listed below.
- UV-blocking clothing such as hats, scarves, and sunglasses.

Poon Hill's Climate
The weather will be pleasant and bright if you travel in the ideal seasons, which are spring and fall (Sept.-Nov. and mid-Feb.-mid-June), although evenings may be cool and the temperature may drop below freezing. You will be leaving behind warmer low-level areas as you make your way to Poon Hill to arrive at a location that might be below-freezing. Due to a variety of natural factors and surrounding weather patterns, the weather might change quickly and unpredictably. So the weather may be described as mild, but you should be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.
Poon Hill at Sunrise
The morning vista of the snow-capped mountain range is the highlight of the entire journey. To get ready and travel to the viewing area on Poon Hill, one must rise around one hour and forty-five minutes before sunrise. Depending on the season, it may take a few minutes until the sun gently rises from the background to cast its golden rays on the mountain peaks, enhancing the already breathtaking scene. Even though it might be quite chilly and crowded in the morning, it all appears to be worth it until you see the mountain peaks shining in the early morning sun.
Important Note: Some hikers also prefer the sunset to the dawn because it is more peaceful and allows them to take advantage of the nice weather until the sun gradually sets behind the mountains.
