‘picturesque Gokyo lakes with super views of world four highest peaks’

Gokyo Valley Trekking route is a traditional trekking trail in the Everest region that blends natural beauty, adventure, and diversity. Bask in the magnificent view of Everest and scores of other big and small Himalayas. Lay eyes on the largest glacier in the Nepalese Himalayas. Surround yourself with a variety of flora and fauna. Be a part of the unique culture of the region. Take the Gokyo Valley Trekking route to explore a different side of the Himalayas not seen from the Everest Base Camp. Gokyo boasts magnificent turquoise lakes. The surrounding glacier forms the source of mighty and torrential Sapta Koshi River, the biggest river in Nepal. This river holds cultural and historical significance.

Gokyo Valley Trekking route takes you to the less popular, yet more beautiful, part of the Everest region. The journey begins with the exploration of the ancient, cultural and historical heritage of Kathmandu valley. Learn about Newari culture, tradition, and lifestyle that has been in existence for ages. After that, take an exhilarating 35-minute flight to the beautiful Lukla Airport. The trail follows the mighty Dudh Koshi River. You will enjoy the view of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam and other peaks that overlook our trekking trail. We trek through several villages enjoying the ecological diversity of Sagarmatha National Park. Then we hike up to reach the buzzing city of Namche Bazaar.

Afterward, we take on the less traveled path as we wander through the trail to the settlements of Dole and Machhermo. After another day of trekking, the beautiful Gokyo valley welcomes us. After exploring Gokyo village, one of the highest settlements in the world, we ascend Gokyo Peak. Atop the ridge, there is a stunning view of the Ngozumba glacier.  From here, you can enjoy panoramic views from Gokyo Peak.

The view from Gokyo Peak has to be seen to be believed. The Ngozumpa glacier provides a picture-perfect backdrop for this stunning panorama. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8511m), Cho Oyu (8153m) and Makalu (8463m) are the five highest mountains to see from here. The view from this peak is more beautiful than the iconic and more popular Kala Patthar in the Everest region. The return journey from Gokyo valley is a leisurely trek to Namche and Lukla, then we return to Kathmandu. Intermittently, we also trek past Buddhist monasteries and prayer wheels, suspension bridges festooned with prayer flags and other cultural symbols.

Gokyo Valley Trekking route provides the perfect setting for trekking. It has everything your heart desires. Best Seasons for Gokyo Valley Trekking:

Gokyo Valley Trekking can be done nearly all months of the year; however the best time is from March to May in spring season and with mid-September till mid-December months during autumn and pre-winter season.

March to May lovely with enough day lights and sunshine when high hills with forest of tall trees and bush of rhododendron will be in full bloom with other wild-flowers, make the trek more interesting and special.

Most days are clear from morning till late afternoon, can get cloudy sometimes with chance of snows around higher elevation cold in the morning and night time (not adding extra wind-chill factors).

September to December during autumn / fall and pre-winter seasons, most days are crystal clear from morning till mid-afternoon but with short day lights, much colder and freezing temperatures in the morning and night as well in shades, away from sun lights (not adding extra wind-chill factors).

Some people might be interested to trek during low season of wet monsoon times most days are cloudy that obstructs views of peaks, encountering less and few numbers of trekkers during rainy season of Mid June till Mid-September, but very lush and greens with enough moistures that supports with more oxygen to help acclimatization, days are longer with sunlight due to summer and monsoon season around Nepal and other Himalayan destinations much warmer than other seasons of spring and autumn.

Local Culture and Religion:

Sherpa are the natives of Everest and other higher Himalayan region, the word Sherpa comes from Tibetan language as East for Sher and Pa means people, where Sherpa migrated around high Himalaya of Nepal around Mid-East and Far Eastern Himalaya range from Eastern parts of Tibet.

Way back of more than 400 years of history, the Sherpa normally are farmers and livestock herding like cows and yaks interwoven with strong Buddhism religion and fascinating cultures that you can witness walking around villages.

In every Sherpa villages one can find a monastery as you walk from village to another where you will come across many prayer walls and religious monuments of Stupas with rows of spinning prayer wheels.

Sherpa men-folks were the earlier pioneers as mountain and trekking guides and still held the post till present.

Climate and Weather:

Himalayan climate can be unpredictable sometimes even in good best seasons, where April and May to first week of June will be the best time during spring times, when days are longer with enough sunlight hours.

Morning and night time as well in shade can be cold and much freezing temperatures around higher areas above 3,000 m.

Other months from September to November another great times for treks around Kanchenjunga base camp and other areas of Himalaya, when days are clear for views and to summit the top of the peak, although much colder months of autumn season with extreme cold during morning and night time, where sunlight is much shorter.

Trek to Gokyo lakes

Thank you Dipak and Kilnath for the great trip to Nepal! Everything has been very well planned and our trip therefore went without any problem whatsoever. It was nice to simply be able to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. I would not hesitate to recommend Trekking Planner for the preparation of a trek to this beautiful country and will definitevely retain the services of this company upon my return to Nepal (hopefully in upper mustang!). Thanks again! Visited April 2017

SebGHK

well organized trek in a spectacular area

We were a couple that just finished the Gokyo trip. The experience was amazing, and Trekking Planner (Dipak, our guide Bhanu, and all others that helped) did a great job. My girlfriend was worried by altitude sickness, and we had a slow and steady trek, and in the end, we both managed to "climb" to the 5360 m high Gokyo Ri! We are extremely grateful to Trekking Planner for this experience. The weather was amazing (I really recommend going in mid October), and so were the views of course! The culture, nature, food and overall exercise you will do on this trek are amazing. Moreover, after Namche Bazar, it becomes much less crowded (due to the fact, that hundreds go to see Everest Base Camp), and we really wanted to avoid the crowds. The Gokyo valley is peaceful, serene, and offers breathtaking views on Cho Oyu throughout the trek, and on Sagarmatha (Everest) on several occasions (basically, every time you "climb" a bit higher). What I would like to emphasize is, that everything went extremely smooth - we noticed a lot of other groups/couples/individuals, that were stuck either on Kathmandu or Lukla airports, due to delays in flights, or flights just not happening at all (not uncommon in Nepal). Dipak and his team however did all they could, and brought us to the Everest area and back on the planned dates. I think this is where they stand out - making your trip a care free experience. Together with that, Dipak and his team make everything to make you feel appreciated - from the warm welcome with Marigolds at the Kathmandu airport, to the farewell golden shawls you receive as a token of good luck.
