5 Things to do in Pokhara.

Pokhara is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal. Located 200 kilometers west of the Nepalese capital, it is the most frequently visited city by tourists, only second to Kathmandu. While Kathmandu is the epitome of Nepalese culture with its religious and historic grandeur, it is safe to say Pokhara is a perfect place to exemplify the beauty of the Himalayan country, with its awe-inspiring mountains, dwindling white rivers, and serene lakes.

        Boating in Phewa Lake.

Be it your first visit or tenth, a Pokhara Tour is incomplete without boating in the Phewa Lake. Also, the second largest lake in Nepal consists of a small island in the middle that houses the shrine of Tal Barahi. While the lake's eastern shore is a buzzing tourist hub, the steep southwestern shore is densely forested and secluded. The plush Rani Ban, known as Queen’s Forest, gives the lake an emerald façade, and on a clear day, the Annapurna Range is perfectly mirrored on the lake’s surface.

        Ride on a Two-Wheeler

Walking is the best way to explore Pokhara. However, the next best alternative is a two-wheeler. It gives you a rare chance to explore the vibrant city faithfully as you cycle past handicraft and thanka stores riding on the paved streets. Likewise, it opens the gates to pretty hamlets and rich vegetation, away from the city buzz. You can rent a motorbike or a cycle conveniently at reasonable prices set per hour.

        Visit Old Pokhara

If you want to experience Pokhara before it became the bustling tourist center it is today, travel northwest from bustling Mahendra Pul on foot to the older towns. Here, you can check out ancient Newari houses with intricate brickwork and ornately carved doors and windows. You can also visit the 200-year-old Bhimsen Temple, characterized by intricate wooden design and erotic carvings, a shrine dedicated to the Newari god of commerce and trade. Around 200 meters northward is a small hill topped by the 17th-century Bindhya Basini Temple.

        Go for a Short Trek

Pokhara is also known as the gateway to Nepal’s western trekking haven, located in the shadows of the Annapurna Massif. While all significant treks of Nepal’s Annapurna and Dhaulagiri commence from Pokhara, there are also equally alluring short trekking destinations near the city. Take a break from your fast-lane city life and unwind in the foothills of the western mountains by planning a short trek from Pokhara. Popular trekking destinations like Mardi, Khumai, and Ghorepaniare located near Pokhara and make ideal destinations for short treks.

        Indulge in adventure sports.

The Nepalese nature capital has one more feather to its cap – being a budding adventure sports center. For all adrenaline-rush lovers, you can paraglide above the earth’s surface and watch down on the serene Himalayas, the lakes, and the beautiful landscape, or you can go rafting in the gushing Trishuli, Seti, and Kali Gandaki rivers. If that’s still not enough for the thrill-seeker inside you, indulge some more with zip flying, water canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.
