There are few pikes of Chulu; Chulu west, Chulu central, Chulu far east, Chulu East, Chulu West is the higher peak. It was first ascended in 1952 by a Japanese Expedition. The Base Camp of this peak is situated in a small valley north of Manang, off the main trail to the Thorang La. There is a controversy regarding the name and location of the Chulu peaks. There are several peaks close by and are also a part of Chulu massif but are not indicated in the map. Thus it is difficult to differentiate between the two Chulus. However, the Chulu group comprises four peaks: two in the east and two in the west. Chulu West may also be called Chulu Central. There is no technical difficulty in ascending this peak but progress can be slow as the slopes are vulnerable to avalanches in certain conditions. You will have a lovely view from the top all around. This trip begins after about 7 hrs bus drive from Besi-Shar, continues through the wide and scenic valley along the Marsyangdi River, passing several towns. The people are very friendly and helpful in this area. On this, you have a chance to visit cultural and historical sights in Kathmandu.

Difficulties rating of Chulu west Peak Climbing
A trekkers have to climb a peak so trekker should be fit  to do this trekking. Maximum altitude of the trek is 6419m, so you should be careful about altitude related risk. To get rid of it please walk slowly and have more water and avoid alcoholic drinks. Please be careful of frost bit and snow blindness. You must take care of your health.

Safe drinking water on Chulu west Peak Climbing
Basically, we can get mineral water bottles in lower places but as we go higher cannot find it. In that case we suggest you to drink boiled water which may charge small fee, found in tea houses and better to bring chlorine tablets to purify water. Due to no provision of plastic bottles better to use boiled rather than mineral water, helpful for protection of environment.

Recharging Batteries of Electronic Items On the Trek
Hydro electricicty or solar power sources are used to charge your electrical items like camera, batteries, ipod, iphone etc. Tea houses or lodges may charge small fee per hours for charging facilities. Better to buy adoptors before the trip since plugs are limited. In Nepal 220-240 volt power is used and sockets fit round and flat plugs.

Garbage Disposal
Use a dustbins and do not throw anything into the fire. Carry garbages in the way where dustbin facilities is not available and conserve the environment.

Spending Money per Day
It mainly depends upon spending habits, normally you should allocate US$ 9-12 per meal in Kathmandu. On trekking, US$ 10-14 a day is good enough to buy drinks and chocolates.

Washing and Toilet facilities for Chulu west Peak Climbing:
All the guest houses offers hot showers, which can be in bathroom or can be a bucket of hot water. Please note that at high altitude there may not be enough hot water for all the trekkers. Limit the use of hot water unless the water is solar heated or firewood for the ecological reason. Every lodge have some kind of washing facilities but you must carry a bar of soap. If the water frozed then ask your guide to get warm bowl of water.
Toilet are mainly Asian squat style. Basically toilet are outside your room and vary in how clean they are. You should not through toilet paper in the toilet hole rather you should use rubbish bin tht is kept inside the toilet.

Tea Houses
On this trekking route local people have built tea houses lodge with food and beverage facilities. A simple room usually have two narrow beds. While staying in the tea houses you will see the charming local people with their good hospitality services.

Most Common FAQs

According to the location, the tea houses vary on their quality and style on this trek. Basically, they have a communal room downstairs with one or two-bed bedroom above them. You have to use share toilet and some have hot shower facilities but some will have the standpipe. Tea houses use a type of burning stove in a main communal area and other rooms are unheated. Tea houses don't have money exchange facilities. Trekking Planner recommend you to exchange cash in Kathmandu.
At the lower altitudes in there are electricity facilities whereas as we go higher tea houses become more basic. As cooler temperature drain battery life, ensure your batteries last a little longer by putting it inside pocket of your coat or under your pillow.

No, As there is enough time to acclimatise while trekking it felt there is no need for them. If someone feels the affects of altitude then there are facilities along the trek at various point and its easy to get.

A group will have a group leader or a guide who will lead you on the trek. Porters will be there to carry your baggage packs and all the camping gear. One porter will carry two trekkers baggages. A number of supporting staff will depend upon your group size.

Mostly 3-4 liters is sufficient. You will be able to refill bottels at lunch time. When you are in high altitude you have to drink more water to get rid of altitude diseases.

Yes, Trekking Poles make you easy to walk in the rough ways. Trekking poles makes your body and leg to move more safely. So, we suggest you to use it.

Mainly tea houses on the way have stores which sells bottled water and other supplies that may be needed for you on the trek. There is no any plastic recycleable facilities in Nepal, we encourage you to bring chlorine tablets and use filter water in the teahouses.

You have to bring iodine tablet with you.  Chlorine tablets are widely available. The most effective and commonly used version of chlorine is chlorine dioxide, which is tasteless and odourless. Tablets can be bought cheaply and usually 1 tablet is sufficient to purify 1 litre of water. Neutralising tablets can also be bought to get rid of the smell and taste of chlorine or iodine. This will need to be done for water obtained using hand pumps or streams in the trek.

Altitude produces physical changes in the body. Higher you go, more pronounced those changes. If after gaining a lot of elevation in a hurry, you experience dizziness, nausea, headaches, and dehydration, you are probably suffering from altitude sickness. In rare cases this may worsen, so a close watch is kept on all trekkers by the Group Leader who is trained to recognise Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). If trekkers shows any signs of AMS they will be evacuated to a lower, safe altitude immediately. To minimise effects of altitude you ascend slowly which allows safe acclimatisation.

It depends on the nature of your illness. If you suddenly feels dizzy or weak, you have to sit or lie down. If you still feel sick, keep a warm and quiet until you can get medical help. You will carried down if no progress we advise travellers to take a personal kit too.
In serious cases, you need helicopter rescue. Our guide will suggest you to use it if its ver serious. So, helicopter rescue insurance is necessary for every trekkers before you come to trek in this trek.

The weather is changeable in the Himalaya so you can expect to experience four seasons in one day. Make sure you have plenty of warm layers which you can shed or add as required. While even in winter it can be as warm as 19C during the day, the higher the altitude, the colder the temperature and when high up the temperature drops significantly at night to around -10C in October/November, and to around -20C from December to February.

Alcohol is consumed in Nepal. You can buy it in tea houses in the trek. Local alcohol is also available. However, we suggest you not to drink alcohol at high altitude.

Time of my life.

What an experience. I booked this solo, and had many concerns when I started (about the cold, about being vegan and a solo female traveller) and Dipak(organiser), Anil (yogi) and Ram (guide) where unbelieveably kind and provided for my every need. They are some of the kindest people I have met and really genuinely care for you. When I arrived, 6 days early for the trek, Dipak helped me to organise a mini trip to Pokhara to go paraglising and a sunrise tour of Sarangkot which was breathtaking (althought very cold!) and the taxi-driver we liked so much we hired him for the day to take us to various locations. (I met another girl who i travelled with). Chitwan was the enxt stop and that was fabulous too, although probabaly not the best time of hte year to go, we did not see that much, but it was still a real nice break from Kathmandu and amazing drive through valleys.As for the yoga trek itself I thought that it was excellent. It is 70 to 80 percent about trekking, and the yoga we did every morning and night. The issue was it was like minus 20 degrees so actually doing the yoga was unpleasantly cold. So if you are doing this trek to get better at yoga, i think that it is more about trekking. However i knew it would be cold booking and I don't regret anything. From tengboche onwards, we did breathing excercises instead of yoga and at altititude I found this benefical. I would recommend travellers to book early dec, late nov not late dec just because of the cold and also make the most of off-season prices. The group was just the 4 of us, originally 5 but one turned back due to the cold and personal reasons. Our sherpa guide Ram was AMAZING and not only walked one girl namche to lukla, but then returned tot he group walking over 50k in one day and he cared for us so much on the trip and was really good fun. The tea houses on the whole were good, the best was tengboche Trekking lodge as it was cosy, but you don't sleep well in the alitude and cold. Food is all vegetarian (trust me once you see the steaks hacked and carried you don't want to eat meat) so my vegan needs were well covered. dal bhat 24 hour power! I would recommend that if you go at the same time of year as me (21 dec to 4th jan) you start the day hiking WHEN THE SUN COMES UP. before it is honestly miserable. But this trek was one of the best things I have ever done and i thank all our sherpas, guides, yogi-Anil and Dipak for such a wonderful well put together trip. I met great friends and had a wonderful time. Oh and the complimentary massage at the end- AMAZING THANK YOU! Would 100% book again, next time ANNAPURNA!


Goes the extra mile!

I did two treks with trekking planner and they were great! I ended up getting sick on my second trek and they called my insurance and took care of my changes in accommodation, my updated flight back, and everything! I would highly recommend them for additional peace of mind!

Wonderful EBC experience

Four of us booked a 10 days EBC trekking tour with Trekking Planner. We booked very late and had quite specific requests. Dipak, the owner of the company, did everything he could to accommodate us. the entire arrangement was smooth and well planned. Even when the flight was cancelled due to the local weather and we had to switch to Heli, Dipak was able to find a local guide and porters for us at the last minute request. and we loved our guide and porters. We remain friends via facebook!

From the very first moment walking into the Trekking Planner office, we felt very comfortable and knew that we’d made a good choice. Dipak sat with us and we discussed what we had intended to arrange. He was very knowledgeable due to his extensive experience guiding all over Nepal. We were doing this as part of a world trip, so due to our long term travelling, and not wanting to take unneeded items, Dipak kindly allowed us to leave our excess baggage in the office for safekeeping.

We planned to do the Manaslu circuit and link up to the Annapurna circuit directly after. The plan was recommended to do the Tsum valley on the Manaslu trek to assist in acclimatisation prior to attempting the high passes. It was a fantastic recommendation as was far less busy than other sections and the scenery was magnificent from the top of the valley. We arranged to have our guide with us for the Manaslu trek (18 days) and then when we finished and prepared to leave from Dharapani for the Annapurna, we planned to continue on our own. 

Our guide, Ramesh, met us at the office on the morning we left for the beginning of the trek. Ramesh was such an awesome young guide. Always cheerful, smiling and singing along the way, he was very knowledgeable on the mountain ranges and always happy to answer any questions we had. Having spent some time trekking the Tsum valley before attempting the the Larke Pass (5106m) definitely helped with our acclimatisation. The company takes this all very seriously as we were one of the few groups that had their guide monitoring the oxygen absorption and pulse of an evening to ensure we were in good physical condition to continue higher the next day. 

We arranged to have the accomodation and food as a package and it worked very well for us. There wasn’t any issues with limiting food options from the menu, as we’d heard some other guides had imposed. Our food and drink orders were made well within reason, though we had some allowances made for us on occasion. Everything was very well organised and explained what the trekking plan would be for the following day.

Even though we had planned for Ramesh to return to Kathmandu as we continued on our own, he was ever helpful in giving us some fantastic information and assisting us before we parted. He has a lot of experience in his years of guiding and it was such a pleasure having him along with us, that we intend on having him guide us again when we return to Nepal to do some more trekking in the future. 

Based on our personal experience, and the reviews of many other satisfied clients, we would highly recommend Dipak at Trekking Planner, and also Ramesh to guide you, to assist you in tailoring your trekking requirements in Nepal.

Great experience

We had a great time on our trek. Everything was well planned. Our guide Gyeljan and porter Ngawang was really sweet and did an excellent job. They were super funny so even the hardest part of the trek felt alright.
